This 90% Platinum, 10% Iridium Wire is the most commonly preferred material for making C. elegans "worm picks". It is somewhat stiffer and less fragile than pure platinum wire. An almost endless variety of platinum alloys can be produced based upon individual customer needs. Alloys are generally produced by vacuum arc melting or induction melting.
The alloy has been used in "non-standard" thermocouples, Electrolytic capacitor and for electrodes in medical research. The alloy is harder and mechanically stronger than Platinum
Platinum Iridium Wire uses:
1. Used for ammonia oxidation to produce nitric acid. 2. Used to make jewelry, wires, laboratory containers, thermocouples, corrosion-resistant equipment. 3. Used in electrical apparatus and chemical industry. 4. Used for manufacturing precision alloys. 5. Used as catalyst, oxidant and gas absorbent. 6. Laboratory of scientific research institute, do high temperature test Zai
