What is the GCC certificate of the United States? What products need to be certified by GCC in the United States? How much is the cost of GCC certification in the United States?
1. General Certificate of conformity (GCC)
Certain general purpose products (i.e. for products that apply consumer goods safety rules, must be certified in a written GCC based on a test or reasonable test procedure) that their products comply with these applicable rules. Below this page, CPSC provides two GCCs examples for virtual products, showing the sample layout of elements required by GCC; One is adult clothing, the other is mattress. These examples are illustrative and do not capture all consumer safety rules that may be applicable to consumer goods. GCC and supported test reports must be in English.
2. information required for GCC certification in the United States:
Identification of products covered by this certificate:
Describe in detail the products covered by this certificate to match each product covered by the certificate, not with other products.
Citations from each consumer goods safety regulation on which this product is certified:
The certificate must identify each consumer goods safety rule administered by the EU * * for the product.
Identification of importer or domestic manufacturer proving that the product complies with the requirements:
Name, full mailing address and telephone number of the importer or domestic manufacturer of the certified product.
Personal contact information for keeping test results records:
Provide the name, full mailing address, email address and telephone number of the person who kept the test record to support authentication.
Date and place of production of the product:
For the date of manufacture of the product, provide at least the month and year. The city (or administrative region) and country where the product is manufactured or is more final assembled is provided at the place of manufacture. If the same manufacturer operates multiple factories in the same city, provide the street address of the factory.
Provide the date and place to test whether the product conforms to the above consumer goods safety rules:
Provide the place of the test and the date or report of the test on which the certification is based.
Identification of third party laboratories on which the certification certificate is dependent:
Generally, for GCC, this part should be marked "n/a" because third party laboratory testing is not a necessary condition for non child products( This is only a requirement for children's products and must be included in the CPC.) However, if the certification authority voluntarily uses the test results of the third party laboratory as the basis for issuing the GCC, the law requires the certification authority to provide the name, complete mailing address and telephone number of the third party laboratory.
Rules requiring GCC - General Purpose / non child products
Manufacturers and importers of general purpose products (i.e. non child products) that apply consumer goods safety rules must demonstrate in the GCC that their products comply with all applicable rules. The manufacturer or importer of such products must provide their GCC with a test record or a reasonable test procedure for each product.
